Cookie Booth II

On February 24th we held our second troop cookie booth.  This time we set up at a local Wal mart.  We seem to always have better luck at Wal marts verses other places.

The weather was better than our first booth, but still too breezy to use our banner the girls made.

I'm a little funny when it comes to selling cookies at a booth set up.  I don't like to bombard people at the doors.  Usually the girls just sit at the table or stand in front of it and ask people if they would like to buy any cookies as they walk by.  This time (at the suggestion of 1 of my girls) the girls each took 1 box of cookies and stood on each side of the doors and asked people as they were going in and out.  This seemed to work really well for us and we did pretty good in sales.

Meeting 19!

After our opening procedures and turning in cookie orders we jumped right into making props and items for our Egypt country booth.

We made a mummy using a Justin Beiber doll my co leader and her daughter let us borrow and gauze I tried to dirty up by soaking in coffee.  We lined a box lid with white fabric and used various buttons and such I had on hand from my craft supplies as jewels.

We made these bookmarks that I had printed 6 per page and the girls cut out.

We also made necklaces like these. Lowe’s was kind enough to let me have 7 formica sample chips.  I have several stamp sets and we used one that had turtles, snails, lizards etc. as that was the closest I could get to looking Egyptian or like hieroglyphics.  Then we just added some ribbon I had on hand.  Super cute.

Sorry no pics of the things we made.  I am horrible about taking pictures.  Always involved in the activity and don't think about taking pictures until after the fact.

MIA-appologies

Wow, time has really gone by since I last posted.  Sorry about that.  Life is busy already and when you add being a troop leader into the mix it can be a lot.

I know when I find a blog on a topic I have an interest in and then it goes dead, it's a bummer.  So I am sorry for those who follow my blog to get ideas or inspiration that I just up and quit posting.

I think I am back and I think I should be able to catch up and get back on track :)

Meeting 18!

For our International Fair Country booth this year we decided to make our country flag.  Though we did buy our flag last year for the country of Turkey and it wasn’t expensive, we decided making one was the way we wanted to go for this year.

My co leader brought a pillow zip case and red, black and yellow paint.  I printed out a template of the eagle emblem to trace.  There was a little communication glitch between my co leader and I and neither of us brought paint brushes to the meeting…Oops.   So the girls pretty much had to finger paint the colors on the flag and I painted the eagle at home.

My co leader and I had searched the net over the course of the week between meetings and found some pretty neat ideas of things to create for the booth.  We found this idea for the pyramid, this idea for the mummy and this chart for the hieroglyphics.  We also found this bookmark, this super cute idea for necklaces and lots of  ideas for headdresses.  All are do-able, easy and inexpensive ideas and the girls loved them.  We did have a couple other options to these, but these are the ones the girls picked to do.

I couldn’t find a photo board, but found a picture that I think I can pull off drawing and plan to draw it into a large piece of cardboard with a circle cut out for the face for girls to get their pictures taken with.  Now just need to get a piece of cardboard tall enough.

We had about 10 minutes left at the end of the meeting so I gave the girls a large spool of ribbon for them to create a story web.  The girls really like this activity and did about 3 different stories.  They sit in a circle and take turns coming up with a line for their story and toss the ribbon to the next person as they go not only creating a fun story, but also a cool looking web of ribbon.
